Intensive Support • Early Career • Goal 6:
Develop a Transportation Plan
Action step 1.
Consider transportation options to work.
If you are not working remotely, your job might require you to commute to your workplace every day or a few days a week. Determine what modes of transportation are available where you live and what makes the most sense based on time, cost and safety. Some options include:
- Getting a ride, ride sharing or carpooling
- Walking or biking
- Public transportation, such as a bus, train or subway
- Transportation services for people with disabilities, such as paratransit and bus passes

Action step 2.
Practice getting to work.
This can help you figure out the best timing, route and safety options for your commute to work. For example:
- If you go by car, the driver may need to figure out the best route.
- If you walk, you need to be safe on dangerous roads.
- If you ride a bus, van or train, you may want someone to go with you until you feel comfortable going on your own.
