Screening, Assessment, and Measurement of Challenging Behavior in Autism Spectrum Disorder

Currently, there is no recognized and widely disseminated systematic framework for: (a) screening for challenging behavior in individuals with ASD, (b) connecting them with appropriate treatment services, and (c) surveillance of these individuals over time to promote behavioral health across the lifespan.

The goal of this document is to provide general recommendations regarding the identification and assessment of challenging behavior in ASD based on the existing literature, provide directions for future research, and highlight areas for advocacy to promote the well-being of those affected by challenging behavior in the ASD population.
